Getting there the long way…

August 24, 2016

So it’s happening. We’re here. The time has come.

Bronwyn and I have said our goodbyes to family and wait to board our flight to Taipei. From there, we’ll be connecting to a flight to Chitose to begin the first of many amazing days!

Our route is somewhat circuitous; when I describe the long way I mean the 15 hours to Taiwan (aren’t we going to have to fly past Japan?), the two hour layover and the four hour flight north to the great Hokkaido. We’ve heard reports of typhoons making landfall over the mighty island nation but hopefully the northern creep of autumn will calm the storms by the time we arrive. In any case, we’ve got some killer rain gear. Let’s just hope our bicycles arrive at the same destination as us!

Thanks so all of you for your comments and warm thoughts so far! Keep in touch and we’ll have you in our gaijin hearts. More to come when we land in Asia!
